So, it's hot and sticky, but hey, it's cooler than it was on the Walsh
Farm this weekend, and you have more shelter from the rain. And you
can even get some sleep! So there's no excuse not to be out seeing
some music.
If you don't mind possibly getting rained on, there's supposed to be a
great show at Brooklyn Bridge Park tonight, sponsored by Jalopy and
featuring the Wiyos, Rob Reddy's Tenfold, the Otis Brothers and Al
Duvall. The web site says nothing about postponement, so take your
chances.
Also due to weather, the free Punch Brothers show HAS BEEN MOVED. It's
not going to be in Rockefeller Park, but at Stuyvesant High. See
calendar for details.
If you'd rather stay indoors, John Pinamonti will be at the Rodeo Bar,
and of course the Sheriff will be at the Baggot, you can jam indoors
at Jalopy for Roots&Ruckus, Will Scott will be at 68 Jay Street, and
Franglais at Bar Reis in Park Slope.
Thursday night, there's a great doubleheader at Jalopy. Brad Einhorn's
Kings County Strings, featuring Matt Check, Kari Denis, Joel Turoff
and Jeff Ratner, will be playing. This is a great lineup that doesn't
play out often enough, so head down there and support your friends and
one of the best music venues in NYC. Also on the bill is national
flatpicking champion Orrin Starr.
As I mentioned the other day, Kate Giampetruzzi and Tone Johansen will
be playing their original songs at Sunny's on Friday night at 10, a
true don't-miss show. Playing with Tone will be Bob Hofner, Walt
Wells, and Alice Bierhorst, who'll also be playing with Kate, along
with Charlie Shaw, Paul Cabri, and myself. Kate and Tone will also be
singing harmonies on each other's songs.
On Sunday, Steve Schwartzman presents another vocal harmony workshop,
taught by Emily Eagen and Don Friedman. These have been really
wonderful, so call now and reserve a spot. 718.395.3214.
The slow jam will be this coming Monday at Paddy Reilly's, while down
at the Parkside Orrin Star will be playing followed by Blue Harvest.
And Fresh Baked is at Abilene in Carroll Gardens.
