Well, you've paid your taxes, so you need a drink, and some good music. All the bands out there need your tips in a big way, and the bars need your drinking habits. So you know what to do, right? All the information you need is right here.
Tonight, Smokey Hormel plays at Sunny's, Will and Wiley accompany the whiskey at 68 Jay St, there's Roots&Ruckus at Jalopy, gypsy jazz with Franglais in Park Slope, and of course good times with the Sheriff at the Grizzly Pear.
Tomorrow night is the Kings County Opry, featuring Hilary Hawke's new band, Hawke and Owl, along with Jonah Bruno's South Slope String Band (playing across the Mason Dixon Line in the north Slope), and the song circle with Ernie Vega, Paul Thornton, and Dock Oscar and Anneke Meeter. Also tomorrow, Sometymes Why has their CD release party at the Cornelia Street Cafe in Greenwich Village.
Friday night the Xylophone People play at Sunny's. Don't ask. Just go have a drink and enjoy.
Saturday night Peter Stampfel lets the ether flow at Jalopy, while John Pinamonti plays at Freddy's.
On Sunday Li'l Mo and Lisa host a tribute to Loretta Lynn at Jalopy, featuring Elena Skye and Boo Reiners of the Demolition String Band, along with Amy Allison, Laura Cantrell, & Monica (Li'l Mo) Passin.
Next Wednesday, a week from tonight, I'm hosting a house concert featuring Mayfly, an old-time duo from Burlington, Vermont. Katie Trautz and Julia Wayne play sweet harmony vocals and folk instrumentals influenced by southern Appalachian old-time, and New England blues, ballads and soul music. Space is limited so RSVP soon if you want to come: call me (Ken) at 718 513 9486 or respond to this email. There's a suggested donation of $10, which all goes to the musicians to defray traveling costs. The show will be from 7.30 to 9 and then we'll jam for an hour or two after that.
